Driver Class B

Position Title: Truck Driver (Class B) Location: Landisville, PA Reports To: Yard Manager/Dispatcher


Position Summary

As a Truck Driver for our lumber yard, you’ll be the face of JC Snavely and Sons on the road, safely transporting building materials to job sites and distribution points. You’ll work closely with yard personnel to load your truck, verify orders, and ensure timely, damage-free deliveries that keep our customers’ projects on track.


Key Responsibilities

  • Safe Operation: Drive a Class B (Occasional Class A) commercial vehicle in accordance with all DOT, state, and company regulations; perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections; log hours of service accurately.
  • Loading & Securing Cargo: Coordinate with yard staff to load lumber and building products using forklifts or straps; distribute weight properly; secure materials for transit.
  • Delivery & Pickup: Follow assigned routes and schedules, delivering to construction sites, dealers, and contractors; assist customers with unloading when needed; pick up returns or damaged materials.
  • Documentation & Communication: Verify delivery tickets and bills of lading; obtain customer signatures; report any shortages, damages, or delays to the dispatcher promptly.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Keep your truck clean and in good working condition; check fluid levels and tire pressure; report mechanical issues so repairs can be scheduled.
  • Customer Service: Represent the company professionally on every delivery; address customer questions courteously; escalate any concerns or special requests.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Commercial Driver’s License: Valid CDL Class B (CDL Class A a plus) with clean driving record.
  • Experience: 2+ years of commercial driving experience, preferably in building materials or lumber distribution.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to lift, carry, and secure bundles of lumber (up to 75 lbs) safely, climb on and off the truck repeatedly, and work outdoors in varying weather.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with hand-held scanners or mobile devices for logging deliveries (to be implemented in the next year); basic mechanical aptitude for inspections.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication and time-management skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and teamwork.
  • Certifications (Preferred): Forklift certification, OSHA 10-hour, DOT medical card.

Work Schedule & Environment

  • Hours: Monday–Friday, 7 AM–3:30 PM (1/2 hr lunch) (hours may vary based on delivery schedules).
  • Environment: Outdoor work, exposure to weather; yard and road conditions; heavy-equipment operation.
